Artist Statement
**I am a strong believer in the idea that everyone has a creative side to them, if only they choose to harness it. I have been creative since I could hold a pencil. I haven’t really had a mentor who I looked up to for art, but I did have other influences and specific people in my life that have affected me, my way of thinking, and my art. I’ve always stayed true to myself when it comes to art; I have never let others dictate how I drew. I am a very detailed person and my emotions can be found in my art and possess a strong sense of who I am. A lot of my art is in pen/ink and pencil. The majority of my art is dark, deep in emotion. I also enjoy the fantasy kind of genre because I feel I can completely be imaginative. There are no guidelines because it’s whatever you want it to be. I let my emotions take me and my imagination rule the page. **

Floor Print

This was a project we did in life drawing to help loosen up and explore; finding out what else we are capable of. We used the floor as our canvas and painted the model we had in class. As he changed positions we had to redraw him using what we had on the floor. Then as you went on it became more and more abstract until we put paper overtop and pulled up a print of what we did. It was a fun project and a great learning experience for me.

Freedom

This is another controversial piece that I did and I am very pleased with the way it turned out. The angel is surrounded by the dragon to show protection, and the dove that the angel is letting fly represents freedom. I tend to draw many of my angels without a face. I do this because angels are not human, and have no specific identity. This leaves the viewer with the chance to picture what the face may look.

Guardian

I've always liked the mystical atmosphere that is associated with jewels and treasures, so I thought I would try to create the same feeling with a dragon. The title of this piece is symbolic because the dragon represents the guardian of all the beauties and treasures of the world. I chose to create a snake-like body so it could wrap around and give the piece more of a personal feel to it.

Protective Mother

This is the first of my drawings done in ink and holds a special place in my heart. I am very happy with the way it turned out.
This piece also is special because it marks the point in my life where I decided to do what my heart says and not to go with society's norms.
I tried to capture a feeling of comfort when looking at this drawing. It's supposed to show the protective and gentle ways of a mother. A sense of self sacrifice at the same time.
